Visit to the Met Service Library

The first in the series of Library tours took place on Thursday 22 January with a visit to the Met Service in Wellington and we can confidently confirm that it is indeed New Zealand’s coolest little weather company! Two tours took place with each group introduced to the process of weather forecasting by Erick Brenstrum who also regaled us with stories on the impact of weather on historic events (visit https://iwonderweather.co.nz/ for more on this).

While the recent spell of good weather may not add many blips to a forecaster’s day, we were able to enjoy the outlook (pun intended) from the forecast room and the penthouse residence of the Library. We were also privileged to experience the green screen in the Met Service TV room where Meteorologist John Law presents the weather forecasts (http://metservice.com/tv/).

Thanks to Met Service Librarian Linda Stopforth for facilitating and guiding the tours and to Erick and John for sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge with both groups.
