Help make a positive impact on our community while enjoying a rewarding career of opportunities. Christchurch City Council, where it’s possible to love what you do.

We are now seeking applications to our Project Internships to commence in Semester Two.

Overview of the Study:

The intern will develop a series of books with librarians to be issued from libraries specifically for reading in local parks and natural areas.  In parallel the intern will discuss other opportunities with parks and library staff to connect increasing literacy and outdoor spaces.

The Purpose of the role:

In the past five years, Parks and Library staff have collaborated on a number of initiatives that involve reading in the outdoors.  The purposes of these programmes are to improve literacy, particularly in the holiday periods and to engage children and whanau with a focused outdoor experience.

Reading or being read to during the holidays helps children retain their literacy education outside the regular school period.  Focusing on nature has many positive benefits for children and whanau including mental and emotional health, sense of belonging and identity.

This internship will improve the service the units can provide to ratepayers and residents by reducing some operational barriers by providing a more self-help guided experience for whanau.
