LIANZA Professional Recognition Awards and Scholarships

You, our members are the foundation of LIANZA and it's important to celebrate your many successes.
One way we can celebrate these achievements is by offering awards and scholarships.


PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION AWARDS & SCHOLARSHIPS HANDBOOK

We've put together a handbook that outlines each award and includes tips and tricks for your applications. 

The handbook has information you need to make an application and should be used to guide your submissions.

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION AWARDS 


Fellowship

A fellowship is the highest level of professional attainment awarded by LIANZA. It's awarded to a personal member of the Association who has demonstrated outstanding leadership, teaching or research qualities and as a result, has made a significant contribution to the advancement of librarianship and/or information management.

Associateship 

Associateships are awarded to people who have been personal members of LIANZA for at least five years, hold current LIANZA Professional Registration and can demonstrate the knowledge, skills, judgement, attitude and commitment of a professional librarian and/or information manager.

Letter of Recognition 

This award is made to an individual or organisation for an outstanding contribution to librarianship, libraries or information management or for significant service to the Association. This award focuses on a one-off achievement that has benefitted LIANZA or the wider library community.

Award of Professional Excellence

This award is given to members who have shown excellence, innovation and an outstanding contribution to the New Zealand Library and Information sector in the areas of management, marketing or digital services. You can either apply for or be nominated for this award.

Joint Letter of Recognition for Bicultural Development within New Zealand Aotearoa

This award is made to an individual or organisation who/which has rendered a significant and special bicultural service to the library and information profession within Aotearoa, or demonstrated commitment to biculturalism over a period of time to the profession, or made an outstanding contribution biculturally to librarianship, libraries or information management in New Zealand. 

Frequency: Annual

Honorary Life Membership 

Any person who has given distinguished service in furthering the objectives of LIANZA may be elected an Honorary Life member with full membership rights. Honorary Life Members shall not be required to pay a subscription. 

There is no closing date to nominate someone from an Honorary Life Membership-nominations will be accepted at any time by LIANZA Council.

SCHOLARSHIPS 


Rua Mano Scholarship

This scholarship was established to encourage and support Maori students undertaking library and information studies to strengthen their knowledge in Te Reo and tikanga Maori.

Edith Jessie Carnell Travelling Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to enhance the knowledge and development of the profession in New Zealand, the aims of LIANZA and to further the continued professional development of the successful applicant. It is awarded for the purpose of assisting an individual to travel outside New Zealand for either research, study, or attending a conference. 

Frequency: Biennial
Value: approx $5000

Ada Fache Fund

This award is offered to a personal member of LIANZA working in a rural or remote location to participate in professional development programmes and maintain the currency of their professional knowledge.

This award is for recognition of a notable published work making a contribution to the profession.

Paul Reynolds Scholarship (No Numpties) 

This award enables the recipient to research or develop specialist digital knowledge or experience at an overseas institution to research or develop specialist digital knowledge. Applications are open to those working in the digital space, or in the New Zealand Galleries, Libraries, Archives and Museums (GLAM) sector. 

Frequency: Biennial
Value: approx $5000

Paul Szentirmay Special Librarianship Scholarship 

This scholarship is awarded to enable the recipient to make a valuable contribution to special library and information research or support to provide leadership. The scholarship can be used for research, study at Masters or PhD level or to attend the Aurora Leadership School. 

Frequency: Three yearly
Value: approx $2000
