Massey University’s Libraries offer physical and virtual environments that provide access to scholarly resources, anywhere, anytime.

We are seeking a professional librarian with experience in managing library online applications such as resource sharing tools or digital asset management systems. Based at the Manawatū Library in Palmerston North, the Online Systems Librarian will contribute to the work of the Digital Services team in helping to deliver excellent online library services to Massey University’s staff and students.

Massey University is New Zealand’s largest distance education provider, which makes online content and services a vital part of the Library’s support for the University’s teaching, learning, and research.

This role is responsible for the Library’s resource sharing tools (WorldShare ILL, Tipasa, RapidILL), digital asset management system (Recollect), reading list system (eReserve Plus) and various library services platform-related applications (currently Panorama and StackMap). This involves understanding the Library’s needs for these services, carrying out any configuration work to meet those needs, initial assessment of issues that may need escalating to the vendor, discussing issues and potential enhancements with the vendor, and maintaining a level of expertise in how the systems work and advising staff on how to use them.

Other responsibilities include assisting IT Services with a library-specific configuration of EndNote referencing software, providing cover for other online systems such as the discovery service during staff absences, and contributing to other work of the Digital Services team as needed.

Achieving success in this role will require:

  • An understanding of how web-based services work and how they interact
  • An interest in problem-solving and the ability to take a logical approach to it
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • A focus on client service excellence
