Does your library have a special or archival collection that you're thinking about digitising?

Copyright for digital cultural heritage collections is tricky, but the rewards for getting it right are great. DigitalNZ has been a strong proponent of clear, consistent, and "open' rights statements since the team's establishment in 2008 and, to this end, provides advice and tools for those undertaking digitisation.

Thomasin will talk through some of the tools available in DigitalNZ's 'Make It Digital' guides and share some exemplars of rights statements in the digital collections of several New Zealand libraries. Thomasin will also share the work DigitalNZ is currently undertaking to update and refine DigitalNZ's usage statements (currently "Use commercially", "Share", "Modify", or "All rights reserved") to better reflect the modern online environment and make it clearer for people as to what they can and can't do with digital heritage materials.
