Library Assistant – Community Engagement and Events

Our services are essential to the people in our region and include infrastructure development, community recreational facilities and planning, building and other regulatory services. 

QLDC are seeking a Library Assistant with a Community Engagement and Events focus to work at Queenstown Library. This is a permanent, part-time role with a minimum of 36 hours per week. 

The Library Assistant role is to assist the team in providing outstanding library service in the Queenstown Lakes District. This role has a focus on planning, promoting and delivering events for adult library users handling enquiries from the public, issuing and returning library items, as well as assisting with the day-to-day provision of basic library services. The Library Assistant will develop and pursue partnering opportunities with local community groups and organisations, and will act as a point of contact for those seeking to establish joint initiatives with Wakatipu Libraries.

This role will also include: maintenance of library materials, collection support, shelving duties, assisting at children’s library events, maintaining borrower records and holds within the library management system and supporting the team. The Library Assistant ensures customers receive accurate information and the service they require promptly, and in a friendly and professional manner. The role has an emphasis on facilitating a positive customer experience at all times, both internal and external. 

To be considered, you should possess;

  • Minimum education NCEA Level 2
  • 1 + years’ experience of working in a customer-facing role
  • Ability to be helpful, respectful and responsive
  • Excellent relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Technologically and systems competent
  • Excellent communication skills – written, spoken and interpersonal
  • Enjoys communicating with and assisting people from other cultures, communities and countries
