About the opportunity

As the Lead Librarian, you’ll spearhead the drive for operational excellence at the Mangawhai Branch Library. You’ll lead a committed team comprising of two Assistant Librarians and a small team of volunteers. Your role encompasses overseeing and actively engaging in day-to-day operations, guaranteeing top-notch customer service, and upholding smooth library services aligned with industry benchmarks.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Spearheading the operational management of the Mangawhai branch, ensuring smooth workflows and exceptional service delivery.
  • Plan and execute engaging reading programs, events, and activities that resonate with the community’s interests
  • Championing a customer-centric approach, providing welcoming frontline service and empowering the community with the latest library technologies
  • Actively engage with diverse community groups, promoting inclusivity and accessibility in library services
  • Oversee the organisation and upkeep of library materials, ensuring shelves are well-stocked and reflective of community preferences.

This role will be based in Mangawhai, with some initial training in Dargaville.

About you

We’re in search of an individual who thrives in fast-paced environments, demonstrating proactive and adaptable qualities. You will understand the value of he waka eke noa – we are all in this together and possess a can-do attitude, self-motivation, and a keen eye for detail. Additionally, exceptional organisational, prioritisation, and problem-solving skills are essential, alongside a genuine passion for reading and literature.

In addition, you will have:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience, preferably in a Library or Customer Service environment
  • Proven experience in identifying and addressing customer needs, including in challenging situations
  • Confidence and proficiency in operating current and emerging technologies, including Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel, along with internet searching skills
  • A library qualification or equivalent experience would be an advantage.
