Community Learning Librarian

  • Do you have excellent time management and organisational skills?
  • Support and execute duties and tasks around Library network events
  • Work amongst a group of dedicated and professional individuals

Working within the Council's libraries is a fulfilling and rewarding experience. Providing amazing resources to our communities, we pride ourselves on our supportive and nurturing environments. We are now looking for a Community Learning Librarian (CLL) to take on a multifaceted position based at our Smith Street location. This is a role which will cover a number of key areas, providing support to assist other team members as well as fostering growth and implementing programmes.

As a CLL you'll be able to delve into group care facilities - working with the likes of Corrections, special needs and rest homes to name a few so having an adaptable personality and exposure to a broad cross section of society would be desired. Having a curious mind, you'll be required to work in crate selection picking resources for these groups so being on top of current trends, engaging with your audience and understanding their interests is very important. Events coordination is a big part of the role - you'll be kept on your toes when supporting and executing duties and tasks around Library network events from story times through to facilitating young adult programmes. Time management and high levels of organisation are important as well as being communicative - your team are reliant upon you to engage and let them know what needs to be done whilst keeping up with the high standards we have set.

We are about lifting our game and constantly pushing the envelope with what we can offer our community. Dealing with people face to face is an everyday event so a high level of customer service is required and having a caring nature is helpful. We are always learning and evolving - having an open mind will enable you to grow both professionally and personally while you're working in a relatively autonomous role.

This is an exciting opportunity to work amongst a group of dedicated and professional individuals who have a common goal of educating and creating a safe, fun and nurturing environment for all groups in our community. This role requires you to have a relevant Diploma in library studies or even education. As it is a requirement that you have to occasionally travel between libraries it is desirable that you also hold a current full New Zealand driver's licence.
