Children’s Librarian (Early Years)

Whanganui District Library is looking for someone to join the Children’s team in a full-time, fixed-term position until June 30th 2022.

The Children’s Librarian (Early Years) role plays an integral part in the delivery of children’s services across the Library network. You will need to be highly self-motivated, comfortable working independently and able to use your initiative appropriately. We are looking for someone able to hit the ground running, with a sound knowledge of children’s services. You will need to be skilled at planning and delivering programmes and events; be at ease engaging with our younger customers from babies to teenagers; and know our children’s collections both physical and digital.

You must have a high standard of numeracy and literacy, and knowledge of reading development. Demonstrable networking skills and experience delivering educational programmes are highly desirable.

The role is based in the Davis Library but includes delivering services at all our Library branches and visits to schools and ECEs. You will also use the mobile vans to attend educational establishments and events in the community therefore, a driver’s licence is essential.

As the Library is open seven days a week, you will need to be able to work occasional evenings and weekends.
