The Review of the Copyright Act 1994

The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment is reviewing New Zealand’s Copyright Act, and wants feedback on their Issues Paper.

You can find the Terms of Reference for the Copyright Review here:

And the Issues Paper here: https://www.mbie.govt.nz/assets/a28d02fc5c/review-of-copyright-act-1994-issues-paper.pdf

Making a submission

The LIANZA Standing Committee on Copyright will be preparing a submission from LIANZA, but it would really help if lots of libraries made their own submissions too.

You can make a submission through MBIE’s online portal for submissions: https://www.research.net/r/CopyrightIssuesPaperSubmissionForm

For other ways to submit see: https://www.mbie.govt.nz/have-your-say/review-of-the-copyright-act-1994-issues-paper/

What makes a good submission?

Read MBIE’s guide: Preparing an effective submission

https://www.mbie.govt.nz/have-your-say/review-of-the-copyright-act-1994-issues-paper/

Focus on the problems, not on the solutions.

Clearly describe the problem or opportunity.

Explain why it is an issue or problem.

Explain how the problem has come about.

Explain who is affected and how they are affected.

Provide evidence for your submission’s assertions.

Comment on things that are working well in addition to problem areas or opportunities.
